History Comes to Life

Our mascot, “Marvin the Moonshiner” is inspired by this life-sized woodcarving of an old-fashioned bootlegger watching his still – a jug at one hand, rifle at the other, and both eyes wide open watching for the revenuer!

Marvin is a popular attraction at our events that helps give a face to the origin story of an American legend. Real-life moonshiners like Marvin helped to support Southern families from the earliest pioneer days, right up through the Depression and World Wars.
